English: reading and writing stories with familiar settings, identifying characters and the plot. Sentence work and simple punctuation (capital letters and full stops). Reading and spelling using phonetic strategies. To listen to, read and write simple poems with rhyming patterns.
Maths: counting, reading and writing numbers to 30, and Year 2s to at least 100 accurately, problem-solving and using numbers in familiar contexts, reading and writing the number names, ordering numbers, addition and subtraction using practical and informal methods.
Science: light and Dark. Naming sources of light, comparing light sources, and learning about shiny and reflective objects.
History: the life and work of Florence Nightingale.
| PE: Tuesday afternoon is Games with Mrs Abbott. Ball games and partner games.
(Thursday afternoon is gymnastics.
Please can children keep their PE kits on the pegs at all times, they can go home at the end of the half term for a wash!)
Music: exploring musical instruments, knowing the correct names, and the sounds they can make.
DT: making vehicles. We will be designing and making moving vehicles. Please can children start to collect old boxes (shoe boxes will be perfect!)
ICT: creating pictures using Colour Magic. Learning to print and save work to the correct folders.
PSHE: new beginnings, making rules and realising why we need rules in our lives.
