UNVEILING THE TILE PROJECT

After many months of hard work, John Hellins School proudly unveiled a magnificent installation of community art on 17th June 2009. Overseen by artist-in-residence Marilyn Abbott, the tile project is made up of 130 tiles and depicts the tree of knowledge. Every one of the 117 children in the school produced a tile, starting from scratch by rolling out the clay and eventually decorating and glazing it. The school is very grateful to Bob Denton of Northampton University, who fired all the tiles and more to the point, did so without breaking any! The whole school is rightly proud of their work, which will remain in place for many years to come.
